TV broadcasts with our participation |
Already in summer 1996 the big private TV station Pro7 produced a 10 minutes story on CP for their scientific magazine "Welt der Wunder" at our house. In 2001 a short footage followed, made by the German public SWR-TV at the Botanical Gardens Brüglingen (Basel, CH) for their garden magazine "Treffpunkt im Grünen". That became the trigger for a complete broadcast on our CP-activities one year later. The result was a successful and recommendable telecast: "Lust auf Fleisch: Hinterhalt im Pflanzenreich" SWR Fernsehen Baden Württemberg (Reihe Treffpunkt im Grünen - 2002 und 2003)
Production took place at our house in Weil am Rhein (D), at the Leonhard Gymnasium Basel (CH) and at the Botanical Gardens of the University Basel (CH). Directed by Kirsten Ruppel.
In 2002 the Eidgenössische Zollbehörde Basel (Swiss customs authorities) demanded surprisingly in an official letter, that CP are protected orchids. After trying in vain to correct their error at the authorities in Basel, we faced "a wall of silence" for months. Well, sometimes it is not easy to admit an embarressing error. But fortunatly those days the TV-company BRAINPOOL called us up to ask if we are willing to give a talk about CP at the famous TV broadcast "TVtotal" with star moderator Stefan Raab. Actually we agreed! And after waiting a little, the Swiss authorities confessed their error. Thank you Stefan, that telecast was actually helpful!! Also the feedback of the audience was great, only 24 hours after the TV-show about 3000 clicks appeared at our website.
Thanks to Stefan Raab and Siggi there is now no more lack in clarity at the Eidgenössischen Zollbehörde: the Venus Flytrap (Dionaea muscipula) is a sundew herb (Droseraceae) and not an orchid.
